Ball Park Music
Brisbane’s melancholic pop masters Ball Park Music are made of five curious minds that thrive on musical experimentation. Their inventiveness is akin to that of UK supergroup Superorganism’s playful collaboration; the Avalanches’ ability to synchronise diverse genres, and Elliott Smith’s knack for carrying sadness with an honest wit.
It has been a tremendous journey since the five-piece formed in 2008 while studying music at university. In ten years, they’ve produced seven albums – the last six having consecutively debuted in the top 10 of the ARIA charts. The band continue to sell out bigger venues each time they tour and regularly appear on the Australian festival circuit, including Falls Festival, Groovin’ The Moo and Splendour in the Grass.
Over 15 years into their career, everything Ball Park Music does these days feels like a victory lap. The Brisbane indie darlings have long established themselves as one of Australia’s most revered and endearing bands — with six of their albums debuting in the ARIA Top Five (including one #1), four songs achieving platinum status, and no fewer than a dozen Hottest 100 placements to their name. Most bands in that position would happily coast on heyday nostalgia, but if it wasn’t already clear: Ball Park Music are not most bands.
To kick off the year, Ball Park Music dropped another single, “Please Don’t Move To Melbourne,” from their latest record Like Love and announced a huge 30-date national tour celebrating the new album. Released in April 2025, the record debuted at #1 on the ARIA National Album Charts, #1 on the ARIA Australian Album Charts, and #2 on the ARIA Vinyl Album Charts. Alongside the success of Like Love, the band have just wrapped up a tour with Oasis and will be returning to Europe for another long-awaited run of shows.
